Welcome…

to This Temporary Home, my name is Brooke and I am humbled that you would stop by. You are a welcomed guest!

Let me tell you the meaning behind This Temporary Home. Often, even as Christians, our focus is on the temporary unless we purpose otherwise. We look at the dishes, the laundry pile, that stash of bills, the floor that needs vacuuming again, our clothing sizes, our to do list, and we easily become discouraged. But the Bible tells us that this is not our eternal home and in light of that truth the Apostle Paul instructs us:

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:18, NLT

Eternity will last forever. We are living in our temporary home, but as such, our work here is not in vain. It lays the foundations for our eternal home in heaven with Christ Jesus. This blog provides us a place to join in our journey home, and prayerfully point our collective thoughts towards Jesus, and our eternal dwelling.

A little about me. I am an introverted, homeschooling mom of four beautiful children. My husband and I have been married 18 years after meeting our freshman year at Auburn University. War Eagle! I am a certified speech language pathologist who has chosen to invest my time at home. Our family went from being a family of four, to a family of six, within four months after the adoption and addition of our two youngest children. I love listening to podcasts while working out. Additionally, reading and hiking are two of my favorite ways to spend my time. Most recently as of September 2019 I opened a bookstore on Instagram: Brooke’s Bookshop My husband, Ron, is the campus pastor of our church. He is also the author of numerous curriculum series to aid our pastor’s sermons and the author of the book, A Match Made in Heaven? Discover God’s Plan and Purpose for Your Marriage. We both contributed to  Jay Strack’s book, #Critical Issues, #Absolute Answers. You can read more about this book here. Finally, our family successfully ran a Kickstarter campaign to publish our first adoption story in the book, Thirty Balloons An Adoption Tale which I wrote and our oldest daughter illustrated.

You can expect to find many posts focusing on seeking the eternal in the everyday; books, books, and more books; and foster and adoption issues.

Thank you again for stopping by. Please introduce yourself and make yourself at home! While you are at it, go ahead and subscribe to the blog and I will send you my booklist highlighting over 50 stories of orphans and adoption in a beautiful pdf download and you will ensure that you never miss a post.
